As a living civilization India has a unique place in the world. It has not only survived the tests of time but also kept its vast knowledge system extant and live. Every civilization has contributed to the making of humanity defining it through the travails of time but mostly the course of history has rendered many civilizations extinct. India as a civilization could probably survive in the face of numerous challenges through centuries mainly owing to its vibrant and dynamic knowledge system. The seers of this land discovered numerous laws underlying cosmic and physical creation and thereby developed a vast system of knowledge (literature) covering both the aspects of science, i.e. spiritual (metaphysical) and material (astrophysical & physical) sciences. It covers spirituality, philosophy, ethics, morality and religion. Indian civilizational knowledge system touches almost every aspect of life.

Knowledge system that defined the past still sustains our present and may well lead us to future. Some may argue to leave the past behind but it is a proven fact that we can neither survive in present without our past and nor move into future with our empty hands. Indian civilizational knowledge system comprises of a vast treasure defining our past, present and future as well. Ignoring it under the impact of colonialism has rendered it as a system locked in the past. Endeavours are required to un-lock the entire civilizational knowledge system in the contemporary perspective so as to track the path of future in civilizational terms.
